Where we help in the woodworking industry

Profile wrapping

Continuous application of polyolefin adhesive onto wooden profiles, mouldings and frames. An even layer across the full width of the profile with no overflow at the edges.

Panel lamination

Coating application of adhesive on laminating calenders – application width up to 3,200 mm, line speed up to 150 m/min. For HPL, PVC films and decorative laminate.

Coating application (FKV)

The FKV slot head for continuous application over large surfaces – an even layer with a tolerance of ±5%, minimal overflow at the edges, 1 or 2 valves.

PUR D4 water-resistant bonds

Reactive PUR adhesive for bathroom furniture, kitchen carcasses and exterior components. Resistance to water, heat and chemicals (D4 standard); the Melt-on-Demand system prevents degradation.

Cold gluing of components

Precise dot or line dosing of D1/D2 dispersions for dowelling, lamellating and gluing furniture parts – Sempre electric nozzles up to 500 Hz.

What you're dealing with

  • A visible gap on the edge or joint of a panel lowers product quality and leads to complaints – customers will return an otherwise flawless piece.
  • Overflow, burning of the adhesive and imprecise application increase consumption, foul the machine and add time for cleaning as well as rejects.
  • Bonds with insufficient moisture resistance (D4) complicate the production of bathroom and kitchen furniture and limit customer choice.

How Kaletech solves it

Robatech technology delivers precisely controlled adhesive application – to a defined width, with an instant start and end of application (cut-off). The EdgePro slot head applies an even layer with no overflow even at line speeds up to 35 m/min, so the result is a zero joint line and no adhesive residue outside the bond.

For water-resistant applications (D4) we use the Melt-on-Demand (MoD) system – PUR adhesive is melted only at the moment of consumption, with a protective atmosphere of dry air that prevents premature reaction and degradation. The result is bonds resistant to water, heat and chemicals – with no compromise on the system's operational availability.

For dispersion-based cold gluing – dowelling, lamellating and assembling furniture parts – Robatech offers cold glue application systems with Sempre electric nozzles for precise dot dosing.

How it works and what technology is used

Robatech technology for the woodworking industry integrates a melter, a heated Performa hose and an EdgePro application head into a single controlled unit. Pressure, temperature and application width are synchronised with the line speed – whether it is an edge bander, a profile wrapping machine or a laminating calender. Control runs through the RCS system or an external PLC with industrial communication protocols. For cold dispersion gluing applications, Robatech offers cold glue application systems with Sempre electric nozzles.

  1. Adhesive preparation and melting

The melter (Canduro, JumboFlex or Concept Diamond) melts granules or a block of PUR/EVA/APAO adhesive to the set viscosity. In PUR systems, melting uses Melt-on-Demand technology – only as much as the line currently consumes, with a protective atmosphere of dry air.

  2. Applying a precise layer of adhesive

The EdgePro or FKV slot head applies an even layer of adhesive to a defined width along the entire length of the edge or surface. An integrated filter prevents clogging, and mechanical or motorised width adjustment adapts the head to a format change with no downtime.

  3. Controlling the start and end of application (cut-off)

The control system (PLC or RCS) synchronises application with the movement of the panel – adhesive is applied only where it should be. Precise cut-off prevents overflow at the edges and saves adhesive as well as cleaning time.

  4. A strong and clean result

After the edge band or film is pressed on, a bond with a zero joint line is formed. With PUR adhesive the bond cures by reacting with moisture and reaches D4 resistance – suitable for damp environments, kitchens and exteriors.

„The aim was to replace the manual gluing of ironing boards with a faster and more economical solution – and that succeeded. Robatech supplied complete gluing equipment thanks to which we saved a quarter of the costs on both adhesive and production staff. I believe the cooperation will continue on further Leifheit projects."

Frequently asked questions

Precise cut-off and application-width control eliminate overflow outside the bond – adhesive is applied only where it should be. In edge banding this typically means a saving of 15–30% in adhesive consumption compared with older roller systems. On top of that, the time spent cleaning overflow is eliminated and the reject rate drops.
