Melter for PUR Adhesives – Robatech Canduro 2

Canduro 2 is modular

The Canduro 2 melter melts and applies both reactive hot melt adhesives (PUR) and thermoplastic non-reactive hot melt adhesives in the form of cartridges, granules or pillows. Depending on the melter version, it achieves a melting output of 5 or 8 kg/h. The innovative gear pump serves not only to control adhesive application but also to regulate pressure – the pressure is reduced by reversing the pump. This method of regulation is very precise and does not require maintenance-intensive components such as pressure-relief valves. As a safety feature, a monitored shear screw is fitted to protect the system against overpressure.

The individual Canduro 2 variants cover various areas of use:

• Pre-melter for adhesive refilling
• Standard melter: for bead and dot adhesive application, continuous and intermittent application; also suitable for hand applicators or robots
• Process melter: with specific process software for edge banding or book-spine gluing

Melter: melt-on-demand (MOD) or classic tank

All Canduro 2 variants – standard and process – are available either with a classic tank or with a MOD unit for melting adhesive on demand.

Classic tank

All the adhesive is melted directly in the melter's tank. This variant is suitable for applications with continuous adhesive application and for less reactive types of PUR adhesive. It offers an attractive price-to-performance ratio.

Melt-on-demand (MOD)

Melt-on-demand technology saves adhesive by melting only the amount currently needed. This unit is ideal for processing PUR cartridges with or without an inliner and for applications with high demands on instant melting output.

The MOD unit can be equipped with a single-cartridge or dual-cartridge magazine. In the single-cartridge version, a follower plate can be installed, which provides a higher melting output and enables the processing of PUR cartridges with an inliner.
The adhesive magazine is always sealed gas-tight with a lid – just like the lid of the classic tank – which protects operators from PUR adhesive fumes.

Canduro 2 is low-maintenance

Canduro 2 is a melter for PUR adhesives with minimal maintenance requirements. It contains no maintenance-intensive components such as pressure-relief valves or mechanically stressed parts. The tank is designed for optimal adhesive flow, and thanks to its non-stick finish, deposits are limited and the risk of carbonisation is reduced. The MOD version further supports this effect, because only the amount of adhesive currently consumed is melted. This helps to maintain adhesive quality and shorten maintenance times.

For reactive adhesives, an optional protective gas system can be integrated to extend the adhesive's usable life.

Components important for cleaning are easily accessible:

• The integrated adhesive filter captures all impurities and thus protects the application nozzles from clogging. Regular cleaning of the adhesive filter increases process reliability and prevents unplanned downtime.
• The adhesive can be drained from the tank through a cleaning opening and any adhesive residues removed.
• The gear pump can be lubricated from the outside without needing to remove any equipment covers.
• The follower plate, the PUR cartridge magazine and the melting grid can be easily removed for thorough cleaning using quick-release elements and plug-in cable and pneumatic connections.

Canduro 2 is easy to operate

Canduro 2 works with the Robatech Control System (RCS). This modern system enables intelligent control, operation and monitoring of adhesive application. The system can be easily integrated into production lines via various communication interfaces.

Benefits of operating with the RCS system:

• The user-friendly RobaVis interface enables intuitive operation of the melter on an (optional) touchscreen (external or mounted on the melter).
• The current operating status is continuously shown on the Smart Terminal, and error messages are displayed there. In addition, four practical function buttons can be used to switch basic functions on and off – pump, temperature reduction, WiFi and timer.
• Process-specific software for edge banding and book-spine gluing makes process-specific settings easier.
• A level sensor monitors when adhesive needs to be refilled.

The functionality of the Robatech Control System can be expanded at any time with the following functions:

• Integrated application-pattern control for complex applications (up to eight application heads) and frequent format changes.
• Adhesive-application monitoring for quick fault detection by tracking the position and presence of the adhesive application.
• Control of a constant adhesive application depending on the application width (edge width) and production speed.
• The AMS adhesive measuring system measures and monitors the amount of adhesive consumed and provides notification if the amount applied deviates from the defined tolerance range.

Process software for edge banding

Software for edge banding enables precise termination of the adhesive application and consistent application onto the wooden edge. The software includes:

• An application-specific user interface (RobaVis) for entering defined process parameters such as application thickness, applied adhesive weight and application length.
• Control of a constant amount of adhesive application depending on the application width (edge width) and production speed.
• Option of motorised adjustment of the application width of the EdgePro application head.
• A flushing process for cleaning the EdgePro application head at the start and end of production.
