Automatic measurement of hot-melt adhesive application
Thanks to the automatic adhesive application control system, we enabled our customer to save €35,000 a year on rejects and material.
Assignment
A leading automotive upholstery manufacturer contacted Kaletech with a request for automated measurement of adhesive application for the upholstery of car door panels. The customer's main requirement was to keep the adhesive application between two layers of upholstery materials constant.
Solution
We used a travelling thermal camera that scans and measures the adhesive thickness. It evaluates and warns whether the adhesive layer is outside the limit or indicates future irregularities and produces a report for quality control. The device can change the gluing parameters online.
Results
The new solution is more efficient in terms of adhesive consumption and, thanks to the automated measurement, the quality of the uniformity of its application is continuously monitored. Our customer thus saves €27,000 per year on rejects and €8,500 on consumed adhesive.
