The SpineCoat coating head for book spine gluing with reactive PUR hot melt adhesive using Melt-on-Demand technology.

SpineCoat is a coating head for book spine gluing with reactive PUR hot melt adhesive. Thanks to the properties of PUR adhesive compared with conventional EVA, SpineCoat achieves lower adhesive consumption, higher binding quality and a better ability for the book to lie flat when open.
Key benefits of the SpineCoat coating head
- up to 50% lower adhesive consumption than EVA systems
- high binding quality with the best ability for the book to lie flat when open
- closed system for safe filling and easy cleaning
- Melt-on-Demand technology with no unnecessary waste
- fast start-up and format changes
- suitable for new machines and retrofits alike
The system uses Melt-on-Demand (MOD) technology – adhesive is only melted in the quantity required, meaning less waste, less burnt adhesive and constant viscosity. The closed system allows safe tank filling and easy cleaning, a fast start-up, adhesive refilling without interrupting production, and quick format changes.
SpineCoat is available in configurations for low, medium and high production volumes – from 200 to 16,000 books per hour – and is suitable both for new machines and for retrofitting existing bookbinding lines. It works together with melters from the RobaPUR MOD range (2, 35 and 40 MOD, depending on production capacity).
| Adhesive | PUR (reactive hot melt adhesive) |
| Adhesive viscosity | 1,000–10,000 mPa·s |
